DOMELGABOR new banner
Hello Dolmelgaborians,
It's been a while since I last updated this blog, but I'm back with more posts.
As you may know by now, I have been creating experimental chilled electronic background music for the past five years, some of which is good, some of which is bad, and some of which I really dislike when listening to it again after a few years. However, I am still proud that I put in the effort to create them, as they correspond to a darker time in my life. And thus I liked them at the time I created them, as they corresponded to my mood and feelings.
In late 2019 and early 2020, COVID-19 spread rapidly around the world, and the world came to a standstill. The mood was pretty depressing for a while. Moreover, I just came out of about three and a half years of depression (since spring 2016) due to my gradual and painful separation from my wife after 18 years together.
Fortunately, during the summer of 2020, I had the opportunity to meet a dear friend who introduced me to the art of creating electronic music using various apps. It was an epiphany. I had always dreamed of making my own music since childhood, but I never learned how to play an instrument due to a lack of financial resources, motivation, time, and opportunities. Moreover, I couldn't manage to do two different things at once with my hands, which makes it very difficult to play most instruments (such as piano and guitar).
These apps and tools enabled me to create my own music without the knowledge or expertise of playing an instrument. As a music lover since childhood, I grew up listening to French pop and classical music at my mother's house, and to rock, hard rock, heavy metal, and jazz at my father's house, with everything in between on the radio and TV. This diverse exposure developed a keen ear for good music, which I just had to learn to apply to my own tracks.
So I started creating music with GarageBand. Then, realizing the selection of loops was not enough, I bought a M-Audio Oxygen 49 MK IV, affordable and reliable for beginners (like me), and started producing my own tracks with a mix of loops from GarageBand, loops from various sites on the internet, my own sound recordings (waves, birds, etc..) and the sounds made with my music keyboard.
I released the first few songs for myself and uploaded them to SoundCloud and YouTube under my alias, DOMELGABOR. I had no real hope of making money from them; I just wanted to share them with the world and see if they would work. Some did, which motivated me to create more of them and find a distribution company to distribute these tracks to other platforms, such as Spotify, more specifically targeting that platform.
I published and released approximately 50 songs over the course of 5 years (2020-2025) via Distrokid. Until recently, I was only creating experimental, chilled electronic background music tracks. Then I discovered Suno. It was a revolution for me, as from now on, not only could I create, edit, and enhance my own music with Suno, but I could also add voices to the lyrics I wrote. And I must say, Suno is an incredible tool that is very addictive.
I started writing lyrics that were deep, meaningful, personal, yet upbeat, positive, energetic, and uplifting. Probably because that is what I need and that's what I want to hear. Moreover, there is an abundance of negativity and sadness in the world, and many successful songs, which often revolve around breakups, separations, and failed love stories. So, I write light and positive lyrics and melodies to bring some light into the darkness and some hope into despair.
As the world has become grayer over the last two to three decades, losing its color and joy, I created this banner full of lights and colors (see picture above), as a reflection of my songs and music, as well as my current state of mind.
My next posts will feature the album cover, links to YouTube and Spotify for my new songs (those that contain lyrics), and a brief explanation or story about each song. Hope you'll like some of them. Do not hesitate to leave me some comments about them; it will help me learn from my mistakes and improve at creating songs that are enjoyable to listen to, with meaningful lyrics and agreeable music.
Take good care of yourself and your loved ones.
Peace!
Dom
