"STATIC IN THE GROOVE" by @domelgabor 2025
My newest track, "STATIC IN THE GROOVE," is a groovy, soulful Acid Jazz piece with funky, energetic vibes, echoing the sounds of the 90s.
The inspiration stems from my teenage years and early adulthood in the 90s, when I listened to prominent UK bands like Jamiroquai, Incognito, The Brand New Heavies, and Us3, as well as US artists such as Guru's Jazzmatazz, Digable Planets, Groove Collective, and The Roots.
These bands, among my all-time favorites, were instrumental in defining the "Acid Jazz" genre. They combined traditional jazz elements like horns and piano with funk rhythms, soulful vocals, and hip-hop breakbeats. Their music was smooth, sophisticated, and deeply funky, making it perfect for clubs and upscale lounges. Their tracks often showcased notable jazz musicians and polished production.
In "STATIC IN THE GROOVE," my aim was to capture a similar vibe and mood by combining a smooth, soulful voice with groovy, funky rhythms and a seamless melody that is both easy to listen to and danceable.
The lyrics reflect on the state of the world 40 years ago compared to today, highlighting the challenges of envisioning the future. They express hope for a better tomorrow, despite the difficulty of imagining it amid the world's current state.
I'm dedicating this song to my children, and I'll do my best to support them for as long as possible, because truthfully, I'm unsure about the world we're living in now; as it's definitely not the same as it was 40 years ago.
