BASIC RIGHTS by @domelgabor 2026
My latest track, "BASIC RIGHTS," is an alternative electronic rock song with an industrial edge, fueled by lyrics about human rights, fascism, and government inaction. It has an angry yet controlled, dystopian, politically charged mood, with raw energy and clear diction throughout. Think of a "Green Day" meets "Nine Inch Nails" meets "Rage Against the Machine".
The song's intro set the tone, and the rest of the lyrics address serious political and social issues—fascism, rights, government inaction, AI concerns—in a direct yet non-vulgar way, without profanity, slurs, graphic violence, or cursing.
[Intro]
I usually don’t get too political,
But the current climate is ideal,
To talk about the world’s ordeal,
As the threat we face is real.
The world seems chaotic, and it's exhausting to witness the constant negativity—one bad news after another from around the globe. Climate change shows no signs of improvement, with an increase in "natural" disasters over the past decade due to erratic weather across numerous countries (drought, rain, floods, wildfires, snowstorms, hurricanes, etc.). Additionally, there are persistent conflicts and wars.
While Human rights are normally formally respected and protected in many countries, particularly those with strong democratic institutions, constitutional protections, and the rule of law, global reports indicate that a significant number of countries still receive failing grades for violating fundamental human rights, such as freedom of speech and physical integrity.
Even in many Western nations widely regarded as upholding high standards, reports indicate that respect for human rights is not universal and can be applied selectively, with some nations facing criticism for inequalities in justice and border policies, even if they have ratified at least one international treaty, such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), which binds them to protect these rights under international law.
Violence, civil and political unrest are also increasing around the world due to factors such as high inflation, wealth inequality, rising food and fuel prices, increased costs of public utilities (gas, electricity, water, etc.), taxes, climate anxieties, and concerns about civil liberties or perceived assaults on democracy.
Even the capitals and other major cities of Western Europe, such as London, Paris, Milan, and Brussels in Belgium, once considered relatively safe, have become hotspots for high rates of violent crime, gang activity, pickpocketing, and petty theft. This shift has inflated public perceptions of crime, leading to serious, multifaceted effects, from immediate loss of life and injuries to long-term economic, social, and psychological damage.
AI and robotics are driving massive industrial, economic, and social transformation by enhancing productivity, precision, and efficiency across sectors like manufacturing, healthcare, and logistics. While they promise to handle both dangerous and mundane tasks, significant challenges include job displacement, job loss, widening wealth inequality, algorithmic bias, and ethical concerns about autonomy.
Since the arrival of advanced AI-powered chatbots (like ChatGPT since November 2022), it feels as if things have accelerated and are moving much faster than anticipated.
Over the last century (approximately 1926–2026), the world has experienced significant changes, transitioning from the early technological developments following World War I to a highly interconnected digital era. During this period, the global population surged from less than 2 billion to over 8 billion. Additionally, life expectancy increased from 32 years in 1900 to 73 years in 2023.
The combined effect of rising population sizes and increased life expectancy has fundamentally altered global social structures, economies, and daily life. This demographic shift—often termed a "longevity society"—has necessitated changes in how people work, interact, and plan their futures, with significant impacts on healthcare and family dynamics.
With "Basic Rights," I aimed to address all these problems in one song by voicing my opinion and saying out loud what has been on my mind for the past few years, because I worry about my kid's future.
How about you?
