"CHOICES & DECISIONS" by @domelgabor is a chill Neo-Soul song that blends an R&B groove with smooth, soft rap and mellow hip-hop vibes. It follows the path of my previously released song "FREEDOM," with lyrics about the classic human dilemma: choosing between wealth and happiness.
Choosing between wealth and happiness may not be a matter of choice, as most people believe wealth brings happiness or that money can buy it. And yet, it may be the case that wealth can buy it but does not guarantee happiness. And yet again, they intersect, but only to a point. Let me explain.
The economic reality is that money usually buys comfort and security, and wealth increases happiness only up to a point, once basic needs are met. Beyond a certain income, more money does not equal more joy, as the ability to buy yourself anything and everything can lead to boredom and disinterest; also, being more selective or sacrificing relationships for wealth often breeds deep loneliness.
Choosing wealth over happiness is often a trade-off, as you give up time, energy, and peace for financial power, which also comes with restrictions. When choosing happiness, you trade luxury and status for freedom and contentment. The compromise is that true wealth means having enough money to control your time, as well as the freedom to make personal choices and decisions independent of your finances, status, situation, and position.
In the end, to have both, the goal is to achieve balanced financial security with personal passion and health while retaining a certain freedom, not being tied to golden handcuffs.
Making choices and taking decisions means defining when "enough" is enough by knowing your financial target to avoid endless chasing. It also means valuing your time by deciding if a higher salary is worth losing weekends and time for yourself, your family, and your friends. It means investing in experiences rather than possessions, as objects may lose both sentimental and financial value over time, while shared moments, souvenirs, and memories sustain happiness longer. Last but not least, it also means prioritizing personal health and growth, as wealth means nothing if your body or mind breaks and you can't continue to live, learn, and evolve through personal and shared experiences.
If you have been following me for a while, you know I like to ask myself philosophical and existential questions about life, the meaning and importance of life, and all the complex things that surround it, such as love, friendship, family, relationships, physical and mental health, time, purpose, happiness, peace of mind, growth, gratitude, authenticity, freedom, security, experiences, beauty, and so much more. And that I love to write lyrics about all these subjects, sometimes separately, sometimes all at once in the same song.
Well, this song is about all of them, and more particularly, as mentioned in the introductory verse of this song, it is about contrasting our obsession with temporary, artificial possessions against the destruction of our only home — the Earth — due to greed, possession, overproduction and overconsumption, corruption, and our endless chasing of wealth and power over happiness and freedom, basically, the human dilemma of choices and decisions.

Financially successful yet completely unfree
