BLESSED - An uplifting Indie Pop, Folk-Rock song about being blessed in life.
"BLESSED" is an uplifting indie pop, folk-rock song about being blessed in life by realizing that in these challenging times, even if life may seem difficult and testing, and despite all the challenges and difficulties we may face, a majority of us are still blessed to be wealthy, smart, lucky, and happy.
The inspiration behind the song
Recently, I was scrolling on social media when I stumbled upon a meme on both Facebook and LinkedIn, saying:
"The wealthiest people are private,
The smartest people are quiet,
The happiest people feel free,
And the blessed or luckiest people are grateful."
For some reason, this meme, which has been circulating on social media for the past 2-3 months, resonated with me. It might not be entirely true for everyone, but overall, from a consensus perspective, it reflects reality quite well (or at least, it does for me). And it inspired me to write this song, maybe because it resonated with my personality and character.
I'm not wealthy in money but in experiences and memories. I'm not the smartest, but I'm smart enough, and although I can be quite talkative, I can also be very quiet at times. As for luck, I have always felt protected, and although I have been unlucky in many ways, in others I have always felt very lucky (as if someone or something has been watching over me for as long as I can remember). I have always been thankful and grateful for that. Lots of bad and sad things happened to me over the years and could have been worse in a lot of cases, but somehow I always managed to fall back on my feet in extremis and came out of it without much damage. Call it fate or luck, I'm not sure, but I'm grateful for it.
As for happiness, well... let's say that, like everyone else, my life has had ups and downs, with some really troubling and sad moments and periods. Still, I have always overcome my sadness and troubles by finding happiness in the little things and the moments I have shared with the people I love. These sparks of happiness have given me the freedom of mind and body I needed countless times over the years, even in the dullest, somber, saddest, and most solitary moments of my life.
My life is rather normal, not grand or really exciting; I work a lot, never really go out (so creating music is one of my hobbies, allowing me to escape in my own way), don't have many friends, and focus 300% on my kids and their education, which does not leave much room for anything else for now. And yet, I can't complain; I'm very happy about a lot of small things in my life. They might not be much to most, but they are all that matters to me. And I feel blessed for that.
Wealthy, Smart, Lucky, and Happy
Wealthy, not in money but in experiences, memories, and souvenirs. Wealth is not only silver and gold and material possessions, but also experience and knowledge, love and passion, desire and people, family, friends, relationships, partnerships, and friendships. Wealth of experiences, shared or not, done with your heart, soul, and mind rather than just a fruit of your labor and what it may represent in your wallet and bank account.
Smart, because we are constantly adapting to an ever-evolving world. Look at how the world was in the 1970s, only 50 years ago, and how it is now. This is both incredible and terrifying: how fast certain things have changed. Technology is the perfect example of this. You can now access all the knowledge in the world, learn, and develop your skills and knowledge anytime, anywhere. You can communicate with the entire world from your couch at home. You can decide who and what you want to be and do whatever you want to do, as you have all the tools at your disposal if you're willing to put in the effort and commitment to achieve and succeed. There is a solution for nearly everything at the click of a button, and if you can't find it, AI is now pretty much everywhere to help and do the search or even suggest solutions or even do it for you (which is both great and bad, but that is another subject).
Lucky to be alive and well, to have a family and friends, and still able to create opportunities, especially given the state of the world and the geopolitical, political, societal, and economic challenges it has faced over the past 20 years, and even more so since 2020 (the post-COVID-19 era). The world has become more unstable, violent, and insecure despite an increase in mass surveillance, tracking algorithms and AI, and stricter control laws and rules. So for those of us who, like me, still have the chance to have a job allowing us to provide for our kids and family, allowing us to have a roof over our heads, food on the table, clothes to wear, activities to do, travel occasionally, and still have an impression of freedom, compared to a lot of people in this world, we are indeed very lucky. Especially if you are still in good health and have no physical or mental handicaps. Be thankful and grateful for what you've got.
Happy, as ultimately we can still find joy in living and evolving during one of the most remarkable yet unpredictable periods of our time. Despite wars, civil and political unrest, climate change, natural and human-made disasters, viruses, increasing violence and extremism, racism, anti-Semitism, religious hate crimes, genocide, gun violence and crimes, drugs, and more, we must still strive to recognize and appreciate all the positive aspects, even the smallest, that occur in our daily lives.
We all have a dark side due to unresolved traumas and issues and even abuses in our past (far or recent), things that occurred during childhood or adolescence (or both), or even adulthood, with our family, our friends, our partners or spouses, the loss of a sibling, a parent, or a close family member, a father or mother figure, a mentor, etc., etc.
Whatever happened, we've all learned to cope with it one way or another, or to bury it so deep that we forget about it on the surface and move on, or to follow therapy to deal with it and find the keys to be able to continue to live and overcome it.
It is a strange world where happiness seems increasingly difficult to find. However, we still have to try to find it in our daily routine, at home, at work, inside, outside, find a purpose, a meaning, something that makes us happy, like writing lyrics and creating music for me, which also gives me this impression of freedom that is so important for me. Happy to be alive and well, and still able to enjoy ourselves despite all the bad things we all go through, one way or another. It is essential for our sanity.
Ultimately, we often concentrate on and exaggerate minor, trivial details that bring us unhappiness. Instead, we should step back and consider the bigger picture to understand that these details aren't worth our concern. As time goes by, things usually tend to improve, and despite our perceptions, we are—or should be—much happier than we think. We need to release ourselves from the self-imposed burdens of worry and anger. Learn to let go, forgive, forget, and move on, as in the end, life is too short, and it is so worth living with a smile and a happy heart and mind.
A blink of an eye to my little brother
"BLESSED" is coming out today, July 17th, which is a special date for my mother, family, and me. This is the day we lost my little brother, Matthieu, 4 years ago. He passed away in some horrible conditions that left a lasting trauma. I will always think about him and never forget him. Peace to his soul. I know he is watching from above.
Once again, as I did in the past few years, I dedicate this song to him. Rest in peace, little brother. I miss you, your smile, and your "joie de vivre," which inspired the uplifting and joyful tone of this song.
I feel blessed to be under the divine and your protection, little bro, as well as under the protection of all the family members and friends who surround you in the heavens (or wherever you are) and have protected my family and me ever since they left. My thoughts go to all of you. May you all rest in peace and continue watching over us. Your souvenirs and presences all remain in our hearts, minds, and thoughts. Thank you.
BLESSED
Being "blessed" typically refers to receiving divine favor, protection, and peace. Although often used to describe material success or good health, its true significance lies in spiritual growth, in experiencing joy that transcends external circumstances, and in achieving holiness.
In everyday language, it simply means feeling deeply grateful and fortunate for the good things in one's life. It is often used to express relief or happiness. And that's how I feel every day: blessed to be able to continue to live a simple, ordinary life yet wealthy in experiences and memories; smart in the sense that I continue to be curious, discover, and learn new things; lucky to have what I have and do a job that still interests me; and happy to be alive and well with supportive family and friends, to have enough to provide support and education for my kids, and still have the freedom to be and do whatever I want (to a certain extent and within the limits of what I can do physically and financially).
Lyrics
"BLESSED" by @domelgabor Lyrics
When it comes to people
We can say, overall…
The wealthiest are private…
The smartest are quiet…
The luckiest are grateful…
And the happiest are free
I'm private, yet not wealthy
Can I be smart, since I'm noisy?
I'm grateful to be so lucky
And I feel happy to be so free
Wealth isn't silver or gold; it's memories
Getting smarter by learning from life's stories
Trading blind luck for created opportunities
Happy to be free by owning my responsibilities!
My wealth of experience continues to grow
Learning to be smart from what I don't know
Blessed with some luck along the way
Feeling free and happy to face each day!
I'm rich in experience from a life fulfilled
Glad to be street-smart and skilled
Thankful for my kids, family, and friends
Happy wherever my freedom extends
Being wealthy in memories is being healthy
Being smart with qualities is the new sexy
Being lucky is taking every opportunity
Being happy is having freedom and autonomy
My wealth of experience continues to grow
Learning to be smart from what I don't know
Blessed with some luck along the way
Feeling free and happy to face each day!
How to be wealthy, smart, lucky, and happy?
Be wealthy through experience and leverage
Be smart by acquiring specific knowledge
Be lucky by acting to attract opportunities
Be happy by mastering your mindset and duties
My wealth of experience continues to grow
Learning to be smart from what I don't know
Blessed with some luck along the way
Feeling free and happy to face each day!
Rich in souvenirs, not wealthy from what I earn
Smart enough, but still have much to learn
I'm thankful for what I have 'cause I'm lucky
Even if life is hard, I'm still happy and free
