DOMELGABOR: IN THE MOTION - A sensual, suggestive Afro House song with South African drums and a deep, atmospheric, late-night club groove vibe.
"IN THE MOTION" by @Domelgabor is a sensual, suggestive Afro House song with South African drums and a deep, atmospheric, late-night club groove vibe about an intimate moment in motion.
The inspiration behind the song
In a recent conversation with my daughter, I mentioned that I'm not skilled at writing intimate love songs. I haven't felt that kind of emotion for anyone in several decades. And frankly, many renowned artists are already exceptionally talented at crafting lyrics and songs about love, relationships, crushes, dates, and breakups. So I prefer to leave it to them, as they have more to share than someone like me, over 50, who has opted to remain single for the past ten years.
However, the idea lingered in my mind, and I thought, perhaps I should give it a shot. After all, I've already composed several songs about relationships and missed chances, and the mind excels at recalling personal memories and mementos that can serve as inspiration. So why not?
For most people, the memories we cherish most are the intimate moments shared with someone with whom we experienced mutual desire and pleasure. They last forever despite the distance and time. You know what I'm talking about...
I typically don't write songs that are so suggestive and intimate, but when inspiration struck, I found myself deep in thought, and old memories resurfaced. The lyrics flowed naturally as I revisited and relived some of these old memories I thought were buried for years.
I aimed to create a simple and accessible song, easy to listen to and sing along with, suggestive enough yet without being overly descriptive or explicit, so the song would leave room for imagination and be suitable for everyone.
The song's beat
If you have been following me for a while, you have surely realized my love for House Music, especially Deep, Melodic, and Progressive House, which is reflected in most of my EDM and House tracks. Yet lately, despite its existence since the 90s, I have found myself listening more to Afro House, especially over the past 3 years, since the release of tracks such as Black Coffee's "The Rapture Pt III".
Afro House is everywhere nowadays, probably due to its mellow, quiet vibes that blend traditional African rhythms, organic percussion, and soulful vocals with modern electronic beats, creating a warm, hypnotic, and polyrhythmic groove that is entertaining and easy to listen to, making it suitable for any occasion or party.
Consequently, Afro House seemed the perfect fit for an atmospheric, mellow, sensual song with sexually oriented lyrics and late-night-in-the-room clubby vibes.
I aimed to craft a track featuring an Afro House beat reminiscent of The Second Voice's "Let Me Be," with provocative, daring lyrics that are soft and metaphorical rather than overly literal, capturing that sensual, lascivious in-the-room late-night groove. A song designed to be easy to listen to anywhere, whether relaxing at home, on a beach, strolling, running, or working out at the gym. I wanted to create a calming, transportive song that is clubby enough to set the mood for late-night or early-morning parties and one-on-one private moments. Let me know if I achieved that.
The inspiration behind the album cover
The album cover is directly inspired by the song's atmosphere, ambiance, and especially its lyrics. I was looking for a suggestive image online when I stumbled upon this beautiful, artsy, black-and-white photo of a naked woman in a man's arms, his hands covering her back and behind. Eye-catching, suggestive yet not inappropriate, revealing but not too much, just enough to set the mood and convey the message and climate of the song.
You may see it differently, especially if you're more puritanical with strict moral and religious codes (often viewing pleasure and luxury as sinful). Still, in my opinion, this photo is very sensual, soft, tender, elegant, and even protective, even if very suggestive and provocative, I must say.
However, despite the obvious message this photo may convey and any reactions it may trigger in you, all inappropriate parts are covered or hidden. Therefore, it may be erotic, perhaps, but not pornographic. So, sorry if you are offended; it is more due to your imagination at work than to the picture itself.
Initially, I was reluctant to release the song with that cover. However, as noted, it is quite suggestive and revealing, though it only depicts the back of a naked woman covered by a man's hands. Nothing too shocking or inappropriate compared to what is readily available on social media, in movies, and online, where content is often oversexualized and resembles more of a "butcher shop display" than human bodies (no body shaming here, either).
This beautiful artsy photo was very clear and sharp, surely too raw and enticing for some people, so I had to edit it and gave it that blurry, soft edge to make it softer, more sensual and to a certain extent more acceptable in society's eyes, still revealing and highly suggestive, but at the same time I did not want to blur it too much, to keep it daring and provocative enough, and reflect the song's lyrics.
And looking at this picture, I can already hear some of you being offended, even disgusted, surely condemning me for posting such a photo as an album cover, or worse, for being a pervert or a voyeur, and I'm okay with it. I fully accept it, for all the reasons already mentioned above.
In our society, acceptance is often based on societal, cultural, and religious differences. Society does not view this type of image as a monolith. What is deemed artistic expression in one culture can be viewed as indecent or socially unacceptable in another. I'll let you be the judge of that, as I don't want to argue about it. I let everyone have their own views and comments on the subject.
NB: Feel free to leave me a comment below to let me know what you think; I'm interested to hear your thoughts.
The meaning of "IN THE MOTION"
"IN THE MOTION" might not be immediately clear to some of you, as I found it may not be grammatically correct and could potentially confuse people.
To me, probably because I'm an ESL (English as a Second Language) speaker, "IN THE MOTION" means "in the movement" or "in the action" or "while doing something" or "while it's happening" or even "in the moment" or "in the middle of" or "in the process of", it is just a matter of interpretation.
And yet, saying or using "in the motion" is not entirely incorrect either. It just depends entirely on what you are describing and on the context, as "motion" has different meanings in English.
When referring to a legal or meeting proposal, "in the motion" means inside the text of the proposal.
When referring to physical movement, it is incorrect to say "in the motion"; use "in motion" instead.
When referring to an object physically moving into a state of action, it is also incorrect to say "in the motion" or "into the motion"; use "into motion" instead.
When referring to doing something mechanically without effort, use going through the motions.
To summarize, although not widely used because it is not grammatically correct, the phrase "in the motion" typically refers to "the physical state of moving" or being "in motion," and, even if infrequently, can be used interchangeably with "in motion." It is typically a fragment of a larger sentence. It is usually used verbally, as slang or a form of speech used by a specific social class or profession, when referring to the visual effects of text or objects in software, or to describe ongoing events or physical actions, like in that song, hence the title "IN THE MOTION" instead of in motion.
NB: Moreover, I already had a song I made a few years ago, titled "IN MOTION", so I decided to keep "IN THE MOTION" for this song.

"IN THE MOTION" by @domelgabor Lyrics
Midnight, moonlight…
Looking at you, at what we do
No words, just moves…
You catch the vibes, locked eyes
No need to speak, just click…
Heavy breathing… body sweating…
(Feel the move… Be the move…)
In the motion, let it roll…
Take my soul, make me whole…
In the motion, lose control…
Do not rush, let it flow, take it all…
Feel the move... Be the move...
(Keep it locked, late night, no pressure)
Feel the move… Be the move…
Take the lead, fill my needs…
Chest pounding, heart racing…
You got that hold on me…
When closer you pull me…
Moving slowly, body against body…
Feel free… To let it be…
(Feel free... To let it be...)
In the motion, let it roll…
Take my soul, make me whole…
In the motion, lose control…
Do not rush, let it flow, take it all…
Feel the move... Be the move...
(Keep it locked, late night, no pressure)
Feel the move… Be the move…
Ah, yes… Feel it now… Let it blow...
Feel the motion… The rising passion…
Just you and me… right here…
Nothing, no one to interfere…
Two bodies locked into desire…
In the motion… you make me feel higher
In the motion, let it roll…
Take my soul, make me whole…
In the motion, lose control…
Do not rush, let it flow, take it all…
Feel the move...
(Keep it locked, late night, no pressure)
Feel the move…
(Keep it locked, late night, no pressure)
Feel the move…
(Keep it locked, late night, no pressure)
Feel the move…
In the motion... Feel the passion…
Feel the move… Be the move…
Just the move... Now, do not move…
Stay in me... And let it be...
