DOMELGABOR: OCEAN DREAMING - A Soft, Gentle, Romantic R&B/Soul Song
DOMELGABOR: OCEAN DREAMING - A Soft, Gentle, Romantic R&B/Soul Song About a Man longing for his summer love. And the soulful, baritone voice (also used in "BETWEEN YOUR LINES" and "SALTWATER SKIN") brings to mind this nostalgic R&B/Soul sound of the 80s, with legends like Luther Vandross, Marvin Gaye, and Teddy Pendergrass.
The story behind this R&B Soul track
Following in the same vein as my three previously released tracks "PARTY SPARK", "BETWEEN YOUR LINES", and "SALTWATER SKIN", "OCEAN DREAMING" is the fourth chapter of the story of a man who, after meeting a woman he connected with at a party ("PARTY SPARK") and spending the night with her at her apartment ("BETWEEN YOUR LINES"), not knowing in the morning if it is a fling or a love that will last, decides to bring her to the beach ("SALTWATER SKIN"). After a while, their relationship ended, and "OCEAN DREAMING" is about him walking along the shore where they went together, longing for his love, now gone.
I know it sounds quite "cliché," but most R&B/Soul songs are about "Make Out & Break Up" (like most songs, actually). So why change the recipe? The past 50 years have proven that it works, and people still want to hear more of them. The reason is that it may have happened to any of us, making it relatable. And the soft voice, warm ambiance, and R&B/Soul atmosphere are ideal for conveying the message.
The Groove of R&B/Soul
During the late 70s, 80s, and 90s, I listened to (and still do) a lot of Motown, R&B, and Soul music. Those two decades are considered the golden era for these genres, highlighted by legends such as Luther Vandross, Marvin Gaye, Teddy Pendergrass, Barry White, Prince, Sade, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Tony Braxton, The Isley Brothers, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Lionel Richie, Bobby Brown, Destiny's Child, and more. Other significant artists included Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Sade, and Anita Baker. The 90s also introduced iconic groups like Boyz II Men, TLC, and Jodeci, as well as solo artists like Babyface and Mary J. Blige. Then in the 2000s, artists like Alicia Keys, John Legend, Nora Jones, Ne-Yo, Maxwell, D'Angelo, Brandy, Erykah Badu, Usher, and many more.
The Inspiration behind this R&B/Soul track
With "BETWEEN YOUR LINES," "SALTWATER SKIN," and now "OCEAN DREAMING," I wanted to recreate the R&B/Soul male voice, ambiance, and atmosphere of the '80s, and frankly, I love the result. If you liked these three songs, stay tuned for more like them coming soon.
