DOMELGABOR: PARTY SPARK (soft, gentle, nostalgic, pop ballad with subtle Trip-Hop influences)

The inspiration behind the track

I know it's a 'cliché.' It's a common story in movies: a guy with no definite plans for the night meets a woman at a private party. They ignite a connection, talk, drink, dance, then kiss, and leave the party to share an intimate moment. By morning, the guy is left wondering if it will last.

However, I wanted to write a song about it because I remember missing a few opportunities when I was young, when that kind of story could have happened to me. I'm shy that way, and I have never been a ladies' man. A friend, a best friend, a confidante, a listener, yes, more often than not, but a ladies' man, never.

Always confident enough to talk and laugh, even dance (a long time ago), but not confident enough to go forward and ask them out or do something more intimate with them. I somehow admire men who have this confidence and assurance with women. I often wish I could be that way, too.

Advice to myself

I remember once at a private party, spending most of the night talking to a nice brunette with blue eyes. She was nice, bright, good-looking, and really interesting. I could see from her smile, her laugh, and her subtle body language that she didn't mind my presence and might be interested in going out with me.

However, my cowardice, loser attitude, or both, had the best of me that night; I did not ask her out, did not even ask for her phone number, and never saw her again.

She was a friend of a friend, and it would have been easy to get her contact information and invite her for a walk in the park, a coffee talk, or to go somewhere else together, to learn to know each other better. I could have tried, it could have been the start of a great friendship or more, but I never did; I never tried.

If I were to meet myself in my teenage years and/or my twenties, I would tell myself to go for it, to try because you've got nothing to lose. In the worst-case scenario, she says no, then you can move on. But if she says yes, then might as well have a good time and enjoy the moment, while it lasts. It's better to live with memories and souvenirs than with regrets.
