"HESITATION" by @domelgabor is a gentle, sentimental Pop-Rock/Soft-Rock storytelling ballad about a man who is drawn to a woman at a private party. They get very close, drink, talk, and laugh, and he would love to express his feelings, but he hesitates and refrains from doing so, afraid it would end the chemistry between them. A very relatable story that many of us have experienced at least once.

The Inspiration behind the Track

I believe it's fair to say that most of us have encountered this situation at least once.

You're invited to a party or dinner at a restaurant with friends, and someone suggests continuing the gathering at their home. Among the group is that special person you secretly like. That night, fate or mutual attraction draws you closer, and you find yourselves enjoying each other's company, talking, drinking, teasing, and laughing. You exchange suggestive glances and sometimes, perhaps unintentionally, gently touch each other, all while not crossing any boundaries throughout the evening.

Your heart races as your eyes lock onto hers, captivated by her smile and expression. You respond to her gaze, her smiles, her laughter, and her jokes, savoring the moment while your imagination runs wild, wondering how she would react if you crossed the line, shared your feelings, and perhaps even gave her a gentle kiss.

However, the moment is so perfect and enjoyable that you don't want to spoil it with intentions that might not be hers or could be seen as too rushed. So, you hesitate and hold back from acting on impulse to maintain the moment as it is, fearing it might disrupt the chemistry between you, prevent future meetings, and ultimately end your friendship.

You leave the party feeling satisfied and excited from having enjoyed a wonderful evening, but also with a heavy heart, disillusioned by the loss of the idealized fantasies your imagination had conjured while being by her side all night.

Back to Reality

Sounds familiar? Well, surely because it is. I personally had this kind of experience numerous times in my life as a young adult, and I almost never crossed the line despite my desire to tell the person everything I felt for her.

Over the years, I've learned my lesson; on the rare occasions it occurred, I didn't achieve the outcome I desired, particularly not winning the girl in the end. I definitely felt sad, foolish, and stupid about it, and each time I experienced this, I felt more alone than ever.

That's why, after that, I have always waited for the right moment to avoid making the same mistake.

The Power of Imagination

The problem in this kind of situation is that your imagination is feeding you with idealized illusions and idealistic or naive expectations that you might be right and doing the right thing, and that she wants you to cross the line and go further, while it is not necessarily the case.

Your imagination is meddling and messing with your mind and rational judgment of the situation, often enhanced by the ambiance, the atmosphere, the mood, the context, and circumstances of the party, and unavoidably by the alcohol (if you drink), leading you to think or even act as if it were already a done deal, while it is not.

The reality is that most of us let our imagination take over in the moment, and both parties might enjoy it for a while before going further with mutual consent. However, in fact, it is often the man who is stuck in his fantasy world, imagining things, persuaded that he might have a chance to conclude, while the other person might have a totally different mindset and view of the whole situation.

However, and thankfully, these situations can also lead to a positive outcome, with mutual attraction and feelings aligning, resulting in a one-night stand, a brief fling, or even the start of a long-term, committed relationship with deep emotional bonds.

Regardless of the outcome, whether you hesitated and did nothing or took a chance and succeeded, the memory of that night will be something you treasure for years, as you ultimately enjoyed the moment with that special person, even if it was brief.
