"SPATIUM UNIVERSUM" is a dark, cinematic, melodic, and hypnotic space-themed progressive house album. It’s infused with Trance and Techno elements, creating an outer-space ambiance that pulls you in.
The Accidental Birth of a Space Odyssey
It all started with one song: "ASCENT." When I finished and published it, I was hooked. The sound, the vibes, the atmosphere—it all captivated me.
I wanted more. I could have extended that song, but instead, I began crafting different versions. It was like a musical experiment.
Then, an idea struck me: why not create a conceptual album? I envisioned a collection of songs, all versions of "ASCENT," that would sound sonically cohesive. Each track would share similar instrumentation and vibes, yet have its own unique twist.
"ASCENT" made me think of space right away. So, the album had to be space-themed. As I created and listened to the different versions, my imagination soared. I decided to name each song after celestial bodies, drawing inspiration from the sky, stars, and mythology.
From the many versions I created, I selected 12 that resonated with me. Thus, "SPATIUM UNIVERSUM" was born: 13 tracks that together convey a voyage through space, a cosmic odyssey exploring the universe.
The Inspiration Behind the Song Names
Since childhood, I’ve been fascinated by the stars. I remember spending countless hours gazing at the night sky from my mother’s garden. It was magical. I even received a telescope for my birthday, allowing me to explore the moon and stars up close.
Two constellations that have always intrigued me are:
ORION: Known for its three aligned stars, the distinct "Orion's Belt" (Alnitak, Alnilam, Mintaka), along with the bright stars Betelgeuse and Rigel.
CASSIOPEIA: Recognizable for its five stars forming a "W" shape (or "M," depending on your perspective).
These constellations inspired the names of my songs.
As I mentioned earlier, these tracks are variations of "ASCENT." They blend progressive house with elements of Trance and Techno. The ambiance shifts subtly from one track to another, creating a wave-like experience. Each track symbolizes a destination in this Space Odyssey, making the album conceptually and sonically cohesive.
The Tracks of SPATIUM UNIVERSUM
"ASCENT"

Listening to "ASCENT" transported me to space. I felt like I was on a spaceship, launching into the cosmos. The ignition triggered a massive upward thrust, overcoming gravity as I ascended through the atmosphere. That’s how I named this track "ASCENT," which means "rising" or "moving up through the air."
It felt like the beginning of a grand space odyssey.
"ORION"

After launching into space, I envisioned the Orion constellation as a destination. The dark, brooding, and repetitive progressive house music reflects the long journey to reach this constellation. It serves as a reminder of the time it takes to travel through space to arrive at a denser, more populated region of the cosmos.
"NEBULA"

Finally, the journey reaches the Orion Nebula. The music in "NEBULA" is more complex, louder, and denser than in "ORION." It's layered, energetic, and intricate—much like the vibrant colors of a nebula. This track stands out as one of the album's flagship pieces, alongside "ASCENT," "MILKY WAY," "RIGEL," "BETELGEUSE," "ARCTURUS," and "DESCENT."
"BLACK HOLE"

As we explore the Orion Nebula, we encounter a darker theme. Astronomers hypothesize that an intermediate-mass black hole might exist at its core. Following the vibrant "NEBULA," "BLACK HOLE" presents a more enigmatic composition. It features industrial elements and repetitive segments that capture the swirling nature of a black hole.
"DARK PULSAR"

While there isn't a dark pulsar in Orion, I felt the name "DARK PULSAR" fit the track's dramatic nature. This rare type of rotating neutron star emits high-energy gamma radiation but doesn't pulse in visible light. The pulsating moments in the music inspired the name.
"SIRIUS"

Leaving Orion, we journey to Canis Major, home of "SIRIUS," the brightest star in the night sky. This track is more upbeat and vibrant, capturing the star's brilliance with an energetic rhythm.
"CASSIOPEIA"

"CASSIOPEIA" serves as the album's midpoint. It transitions from the darker first half to the brighter second half. This track returns to the original energy and sound of "ASCENT," yet feels more layered and intricate.
"MILKY WAY"

After exploring the constellations, we jump into hyperspace for a wider view of our galaxy, the Milky Way. This track is dense and wide, with dramatic elements and palpable tension. It introduces a woman's voice, adding an unsettling yet soothing dimension.
"VEGA"

After a glance at the Milky Way, we head toward "VEGA," the fifth-brightest star in the night sky. This track is vibrant and dynamic, with an explosive tone that sets the stage for the grand tracks to follow.
"RIGEL"

Then we approach "RIGEL" (aka Beta Orionis), a brilliant blue supergiant star in the Orion constellation, one of the brightest stars in the night sky. Although it is much brighter than its neighbor, Betelgeuse, it is designated "Beta" rather than "Alpha" due to historical naming conventions. It is nearing the end of its life and is expected to eventually go supernova, as reflected in the darker, more distant, and enigmatic feel of this track.
"BETELGEUSE"

A stone's throw from Rigel, the journey brings us to "BETELGEUSE", a massive, highly unstable red supergiant star nearing the end of its life, located in the Orion constellation, famously known for its striking red color and for periodically dimming and brightening in the night sky. It is usually the tenth-brightest star in the night sky and, after Rigel, the second brightest in the Orion constellation. Betelgeuse is one of the flagship tracks of this album. It is divided into two parts, following the same dark, enigmatic mood as Rigel at the beginning, shifting towards a more energetic, brighter mood in the second half, enhanced by the same woman's voice as in Cassiopeia, giving the track an ending that is lighter and more positive.
"ARCTURUS"

Arcturus and Betelgeuse are two of the most spectacular, brightly colored stars visible in the night sky. While Betelgeuse is a massive, pulsing red supergiant anchoring the constellation Orion, Arcturus is an aging, golden-orange giant famous for its incredible speed and brightness in the constellation Boötes. And although Betelgeuse, which is much bigger than Arcturus, might have been a better contender to end this journey before the descent back to Earth, I chose Arcturus because it is closer to Earth than Betelgeuse (so it is on the way back), and it is much brighter. In fact, it is the brightest star in the Boötes (Herdsman) constellation and the fourth brightest star overall in the entire night sky. Like most of the tracks above, it is divided into two parts, with a darker beginning shifting into a brighter, more progressive, energetic, and layered second half that is probably the most dramatic of the entire album due to the progressive and more aggressive tone and multiple risers to evoke the acceleration of the spaceship heading towards Earth.
"DESCENT"

"DESCENT" is the last track of the album, the end of the journey, the return to Earth. It combines all the elements of the other tracks in a much softer, calmer way than the last two tracks, "BETELGEUSE" and "ARCTURUS," yet still with some energetic and dramatic parts to evoke the descent of the capsule into the atmosphere.
