DOMELGABOR: OCEAN PEACE - An ode to the ocean in a song with lush, spiritual, and soulful Afro House vibes

"OCEAN PEACE" by @domelgabor is an ode to the ocean, with lush, spiritual, and soulful Afro House vibes and lyrics that carry a poetic, healing, and artistic essence.

Finding Solace in the Ocean Peace

Like the sun and the natural world, the ocean (and/or the sea for some of you) has always been more than a beautiful backdrop. It is a mirror, a healer, and a limitless source of artistic inspiration, with a unique power to strip away our internal noise and return us to ourselves. Walking quietly along the ocean shore as waves roll in is instantly relaxing and rejuvenating, restoring your physical and mental energy.

You have surely experienced it many times, and it strikes me every time that just the view of the water and the waves, the noise, the breeze, and the scent of the ocean immediately bring you peace of mind and heart, relieving the tension in your head and body and giving you the comfort and relief you have been seeking when you were feeling sad or worried.

The ocean is a natural remedy for the stress, doubts, fears, and anxiety of our daily urban life, even for the large majority of us who live far from it.

This song is an invitation to sit quietly on the shore with me, watch the ocean's ebb and flow, breathe slowly, relax, empty your head of bad or sad thoughts, and let the tumult and torment of the world drift away.

The Story Behind the Imagery

When writing "OCEAN PEACE," I wanted to capture that exact, fragile moment when a new morning breaks and the fears or doubts we carried through the night begin to dissolve, as we walk along the shoreline, looking at the shades of blue in the ocean.

There is a line in the song that holds a very special place in my heart:

"The sea as blue as a Matisse / I'm breathing slow, I'm at peace."

Art, like nature, provides a harbor for the soul. By invoking the deep, vibrant blues of Henri Matisse, I wanted to paint a sonic picture of absolute stillness. The song flows through the anatomy of an internal storm—acknowledging that while the winds of life will inevitably rumble along our shores, looking back to that "grand ocean, quiet and powerful" can realign our spirit with the natural ebb and flow of life.

Cradle of Our Lives

Ultimately, "OCEAN PEACE" is an ode, a tribute, a prayer of gratitude to the grand ocean, the cradle of our lives. It is about letting the waves wash away tension, erase regrets, and carry our biggest dreams far beyond the horizon, where a new song can rise (new song here is a metaphor for new opportunities and possibilities).

Thank you for listening, for connecting, and for sharing this journey with me. Find a quiet moment today, put on your headphones, and let the ocean bring you peace.

Why a 3-track EP?

"OCEAN PEACE" is a 3-track EP with three versions of the same song, each with different vibes and moods.

Like most of my songs, writing and creating a song is a sinuous route that can take from a few hours to a few days (sometimes even longer if the inspiration and time are lacking). Writing the lyrics, finding the mood, the ambiance, the atmosphere of the song, and listening to it countless times, over and over, while amending and correcting the lyrics, the flow, and the rhythm, until the song starts to sound right to my ears and taste.

Slowly, the song takes shape; the lyrics and flow are more harmonious and dictate the rhythm of the song. The mood is based on the message the song conveys: inspiring, uplifting, spiritual, peaceful, and soulful.

Consequently, I chose a lush Afro house atmosphere with soft organic percussion, warm sunrise chords, ambient acoustic guitar, gentle shaker rhythm, and a deep, soulful male R&B vocal accompanied by a soft, warm female voice, bringing soothing, tranquil, easy-listening morning vibes to the song.

  • OCEAN PEACE (3 AM DEEPER)

This version is the first I created. It conveys late-night, dance-floor vibes with darker, deeper Afro House, where the amapiano and heavy South African log drum are more prominent, giving a deep club groove with more atmospheric dark synth chords, rises, and reverbs. Hence its version name: 3 AM Deeper.

  • OCEAN PEACE (6 AM PEACE)

I love the raw, darker vibes and the rough, textured, gritty male voice of the first version, but I wanted a smoother voice with a more tender tone, something easy to listen to when you just wake up without making a frowning face of disapproval.

So I created a second version where I changed both voices for more suave ones, slowed the rhythm, and added an acoustic guitar and warmer chords to give the song's ambiance a more sensual, sunny, and southern, almost Spanish or Balearic, vibe.

Imagine yourself at 6 AM on a sunny day. The sun is rising, and you're taking an early walk on the beach or just sitting on the sand, sipping your coffee while watching the Mediterranean Sea or the ocean (as you prefer), admiring the breathtaking view and listening to this version of the song. Perfect match!

It is my favorite version of the three, as it is the quietest and softest to listen to, and sounds as I imagined it would, inspired by the first verses I started to write.

  • OCEAN PEACE (8 AM OCEAN)

This third version was only a trial at first, a slightly faster and more energetic version of "6 AM PEACE." Yet, I liked it so much, I decided to keep it. And, funny enough, the first thing that came to my mind is that this version deserves to be listened to when you're more awake, like the type of song you listen to on your way to work in your earphones or in your car to bring a bit of sunshine and positive energy into your morning routine. Consequently, I named it "8 AM OCEAN".

With these three songs on hand, it didn't make sense to release them as singles, so I made a mini album. Because the songs are different versions of the same song, lasting between 5-6+ minutes each, it was only logical to release them as an EP.

Lyrics

"OCEAN PEACE" by @domelgabor Lyrics

The horizon is waking

On this peaceful morning

Warm, calm, and serene

The new sun is rising

Gazing as the waves roll in

Feeling the light on my skin

With each wave drifts away the mind

Far from tumult and torment

Leaving fears and doubts behind

Safe inside this quiet moment

At ease, and feeling pleased

Resting on the sand, relieved

The sea as blue as a Matisse

I'm breathing slow, I'm at peace

Oh, Grand Ocean, cradle of our lives

Breathe your strength into our minds

Let your waves flow through my veins

Healing my doubts, breaking my chains

Carry my dreams beyond the horizon

Where a new song of peace is rising

The receding foam erases my regrets

The shore whispers its deepest secrets

Each wave washes my tension away

Bringing me peace for another day

Peace is calm as deep water

Where the soul finds its harbor

As the oceans embrace the world

With each wave, quiet peace unfurls

Oh, Grand Ocean, cradle of our lives

Breathe your strength into our minds

Let your waves flow through my veins

Healing my doubts, breaking my chains

Carry my dreams beyond the horizon

Where a new song of peace is rising

And if the storm rumbles along my shore

I will look to the blue mirror once more

That grand ocean, quiet and powerful

Soothes my mind and heals my soul

The horizon will then take on a silvery glow

As my spirit aligns with the ebb and flow

I'll breathe in the open sea and remain present

Letting the ocean guide me to face each moment

Oh, Grand Ocean, cradle of our lives

Breathe your strength into our minds

Let your waves flow through my veins

Healing my doubts, breaking my chains

Carry my dreams beyond the horizon

Where a new song of peace is rising

The surf has receded

My heart is now calmed

The storm and wind have ceased

The ocean and I are finally at peace
